Warmi (2018), made in collaboration with the Colombian artist Maria Paula Moreno, originates from the artist’s interest in discussing and questioning the dissimilar recurring -and often imposed- female beauty canons in the regions Latin American. Through self-portraits that show the artist with knots and threads in her hair, the series alludes to the «quipus», a system of knots that enumerated and counted cattle in the Inca culture. Subliminally, Alejandra recreates a metaphor about violence against women in Latin America and the Caribbean.
